Lifespan: 15 to 20 years
Handling: Will tolerate handling when used to his new owner
Diet: Reptile safe vegetation
Suitability: Beginners who can provide a large enough enclosure
Natural Habitat: Open, rocky, hot and arid parts of Egypt, North Africa and the Middle East
Enclosure recommendations
For Adult Egyptian Uromastyx, we recommended a 5- 6ft long enclosure as a minimum to allow them to correctly thermoregulate their large body.
Uromastyx require a very hot basking temperature, which should be provided via thermostatically controlled overhead basking bulbs.
We recommend using a cluster of multiple basking bulbs for an adult to widen the basking area and allow them to heat their entire body and minimise the risk of burns.
Temps should be measured with digital thermometers or a heat gun. High range UV lighting is essential.
